- easyCar Club ensures users are ID checked to encourage transparency and accountability
- easyCar Club drives double digit growth by pioneering trust and safety processes
London, 02 October 2017 – Leading identity confirmation provider HooYu has partnered with easyCar Club to verify the identity of users on the easyCar Club marketplace.
easyCar Club emerged from easyCar.com, part of the easy® family of brands founded by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou. easyCar Club allows members to rent under-used cars from private individuals. The club now has nearly 100,000 members making it the UK’s largest peer-to peer car hire marketplace and has now begun using HooYu to verify users.
Trust is a key component of a successful peer-to-peer marketplace, giving its users confidence in using the platform. In the case of car rental, this is for individuals to feel safe renting out their own car or hiring another person’s car. Such peer-to-peer marketplaces have been gaining mainstream traction in recent years as increasing numbers of people eschew car ownership and traditional car hire firms in favour of a more convenient, local option such as easyCar Club.
Many customers are local people without cars who need a vehicle for everyday tasks such as shopping, moving house or weekends away. Conversely, there are also plenty of people who use their cars for commuting and are happy to rent it out during weekends to offset the costs of owning a car.
Jin Ng, Product Manager at easyCar Club commented, "Many users are starting to reassess car ownership and increasingly view Cars as a Service (CaaS) as a more pragmatic approach to urban mobility. HooYu helps us add another layer of trust and safety to our marketplace giving our vehicle owners additional confidence in knowing that we proactively verify the identity of our users."
David Pope, Director of Marketing at HooYu said, “Progressive companies like easyCar are committed to making the customer journey simple and yet not compromising on safety. Our partnership with easyCar Club helps all parties in the equation to transact confidently. Insurers have the comfort that they know who is renting vehicles, easyCar Club are able to grow user numbers confidently and new users can enter the world of peer-to-peer marketplaces secure in the knowledge that they know who they’re dealing with.”
The HooYu service is integrated into leading sharing economy sites to help bring trust and confidence. HooYu cross-references and analyses data from a person’s digital footprint to confirm their real-world identity. HooYu also extracts and verifies data from ID documents at the same time as authenticating the ID document and conducting a biometric facial check comparing a selfie of the customer with the facial image on their ID document.
HooYu is a global identity confirmation service used not only by businesses that need to check their customers are who they say they are, but also by consumers who want to check another person’s identity before they proceed with an important or sensitive transaction.
HooYu's approach is to use universal tokens of identity including social media, digital footprints, identity documents and facial biometrics to confirm identity.
